Our Curriculum Statement

Our inspiring, broad and balanced curriculum motivates and challenges learning across all subjects. This sequenced approach focuses on developing every individual child’s basic skills while teaching, assessing and developing wider knowledge and understanding; allowing children to collaborate, question, negotiate, solve problems, show resilience and develop mastery level – all of which are transferable life skills.  At Witton Gilbert Primary School, we aim to enable children to grow in confidence, curiosity and independence, with a positive mindset that enables them to try and enjoy new things and reach for their goals.

What We Believe

We believe that teaching should be full of ideas and concepts  whilst also allowing pupils to learn and retain facts and information. Our WGPS curriculum is designed to foster excellence and follows the Early Years Foundation Stage Statutory Framework and National Curriculum guidance interwoven with our five core values:

  • Childhood and Play
  • Respect for each other and our environment
  • Equality and Diversity
  • Perseverance and Resilience
  • Collaboration and Co-operation

At Witton Gilbert Primary School children have the right to learn the necessary skills to become life-long learners and offer a valuable contribution to the wider community.  By acquiring an understanding of these values and learning behaviours, children are able to apply their skills to gain new knowledge and deepen their understanding of the complex world around them.  Throughout the curriculum offer we recognise the importance of children developing cultural capital and provide  opportunities for children to develop and deepen their knowledge. We strive to expose our children to experiences that they may not have otherwise had whilst preparing pupils for their next phase of education; becoming well-rounded, confident individuals who impact positively on society.
