Witton Gilbert Primary School

      Read Write Review at WGPS

All children from years 1-6 receive a book to read and then they write a book review in no more than 250 words if they are in Key Stage 2 and in Key Stage 1 they write a shorter review but also do their own illustrations to accompany their review. The children will have a total of three books to read and review in the school year (September to July).

Once all of the reviews have been collected and assessed the awards will be given. The top five reviews from each class are sent to the author who then writes and draws comments on each review and picks the top three winners.  This means that in our awards assembly 18 children win prizes having been picked as a great example by the actual author of the book!

The winner of the best book review will receive:
  • a signed copy of the sequel to the book they have reviewed (the winning review is picked by the author)
  • a signed copy of one of our recommended books
  • certificate
Second place:
  • signed copy of one of our recommended books
  • certificate
Third place:
  • signed copy of one of our recommended books
  • certificate
There's also extra awards for  three pupils in each class who the teacher believes to have excelled in the three areas of 'Improvement', 'Effort' and 'Achievement'. These children win a certificate and keyring; every child will be eligible to win something!  There will be one illustration award for each class in KS1 - the winner who creates the best illustration to accompany their review will receive a signed, unique print from one of our supporting illustrators, also receiving a certificate for their efforts.
