Dear Parents, Carers and Visitors

Witton Gilbert Primary School is a popular, successful and inclusive school at the heart of a well- established community, situated on the fringe of Durham in the north of the county.

Our school aims to provide a stimulating, happy and secure environment where children can thrive, learn and achieve. We strongly encourage  positive and respectful attitudes and relationships between all members of our school community and we value close partnerships between home and school.

We are committed to ensuring every child receives a high standard of education, through focussed learning activities and the provision of creative and wide ranging experiences. OFSTED (2017) found that:

‘Exciting before and after school clubs, educational trips, interesting visitors and stimulating topics...contribute to pupils' spiritual, social and cultural experiences.’

At Witton Gilbert Primary School we value the importance of nature and play in children's development.  Play and lunchtimes are well resourced with a range of objects, dressing up clothes and scrap materials so that  children can fire up their imaginations, be creative and develop problem solving, team work and resilience - whilst having lots of fun!

I hope you enjoy exploring our website. If you are unable to find the information you need, please don't hesitate to contact us and we will do our best to help.

Kind regards
Mrs P Nelson
Head Teacher

Witton Gilbert Primary School News

  • Year 1 & Year 5 Sports morning 19th April
    Sunshine and sports!
  • 8th May pop-up bookshop - The Children's Bookshelf visits WGPS for the morning!
On the 8th May a pop-up bookshop will take place in the school hall. There will be a letter to explain more nearer the time but all of the books are only £2 each and are brand new! There will be lots of famous texts for sale and all children can visit.
  • Brilliant Book Day
Slightly delayed by the 'Beast from the East', Witton's book day was a brilliant success. The children really enjoyed working in their key-stage house groups to learn about their stories and created some fabulous work linked to the tales.
School is open on Monday 5th March, and Breakfast Club and After School Club will run as normal. Parents' Evenings will also go ahead as planned. We were disappointed to miss World Book Day but have rearranged for Friday 9th March....
School will be closed again on Friday 2nd March due to ongoing adverse weather conditions and further snow forecast. There are also a number of roads closures which are causing difficulties. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.
