Witton Gilbert Primary School

Dear Parents, Carers and Visitors

Witton Gilbert Primary School is a popular, successful and inclusive school at the heart of a well- established community, situated on the fringe of Durham in the north of the county.

Our school aims to provide a stimulating, happy and secure environment where children can thrive, learn and achieve. We strongly encourage  positive and respectful attitudes and relationships between all members of our school community and we value close partnerships between home and school.

We are committed to ensuring every child receives a high standard of education, through focussed learning activities and the provision of creative and wide ranging experiences. OFSTED (2017) found that:

‘Exciting before and after school clubs, educational trips, interesting visitors and stimulating topics...contribute to pupils' spiritual, social and cultural experiences.’

At Witton Gilbert Primary School we value the importance of nature and play in children's development.  Play and lunchtimes are well resourced with a range of objects, dressing up clothes and scrap materials so that  children can fire up their imaginations, be creative and develop problem solving, team work and resilience - whilst having lots of fun!

I hope you enjoy exploring our website. If you are unable to find the information you need, please don't hesitate to contact us and we will do our best to help.

Kind regards
Mrs P Nelson
Head Teacher

Witton Gilbert Primary School News

  • Year 2 share their class assembly about Belonging.
Thank you to all of our school community who came to watch the Y2 assembly yesterday. The children did an excellent job of sharing how diversity within our community is a thing to celebrate; whether it is a different hobby, religion or place to live.
  • Teachers eat babies... Safer Internet Day 2019 FAKE NEWS workshops!!!!
Our pupils were very shocked... until they realised it was FAKE NEWS and that some staff like to nibble Jelly Babies occasionally! Our workshops helped us to understand how sharing information can cause trouble or upset if you don't check the sources.
  • School disco event announced - Tuesday 12th February.
Reception and KS1 - 3:30-4:30pm KS2 - 4:45-6pm Disco tickets can be bought via parentpay shortly - we'll send a text out when they can be purchased. Paper tickets will be sent home on Monday 11th February ready for the big event!
  • Amazing attendance to start the term!!!
5 classes won the Celebration Assembly attendance award this week, all with 100% attendance. Well done to Reception class, years 2, 3, 4 and 6, hope you liked your stickers!
